Star Wuerdemann is a writer currently residing in the hinterland between Tacoma and Olympia in Washington state. Her non-fiction has appeared on Jane Friedman’s publishing blog, and soon she’s surely be able to list her fiction publications. Currently, she’s hard at work on her first novel and a short story collection.
Star holds a BA in English Language and Literature, a Master of Acupuncture, and is a Jukai recipient (lay ordination) in Soto Zen Buddhism. She is a graduate of The Loft Literary Center’s Year-Long Novel Project, and a 2023 Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference alum.
Formerly a teacher and Chinese Medicine practitioner, no matter what she is doing, people and their stories are her passion. She is fascinated by how stories shape us. How we are both the architects and characters in our lives. The unexpected role of Army-wife (life has taken so many paths) has moved Star around the country for the last seven years. She has collected writing community and settings from Maryland, Colorado, Minnesota, Texas, and now, Washington State. She currently lives with her husband, Brooks, and her soul-dog, Gena, who, as it turns out is 30% Bernese Mountain dog and gives 100% effort at shedding like one.
Teaching continues to be a passion. Star spent eight years teaching a variety of topics at graduate level, and has taught independent workshops. To discuss potential speaking and teaching engagements, contact her here.
