Star is a writer and lover of words. Formerly a teacher and Chinese Medicine practitioner, no matter what she is doing, people and their stories are her passion. She is fascinated by how stories shape us. How we are both the architects and characters in our lives.

Getting to engage with writing feels like being a kid in a candy store; Star is giddy to be an engaged literary citizen. After a successful career in healthcare, Star journeyed back to writing in 2015, first as a student of Natalie Goldberg. Goldberg combines writing and meditation, emphasizing how both take presence and practice. Star spent three years “practicing” writing before embarking on actual projects.

Moving to Minnesota was an opportunity to apply her practice, taking courses in writing and editing at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. In 2020, Star completed the year-long intensive Novel-Writing Project under the tutelage of novelist Peter Geye. She is currently in the process of shopping this novel, and working on her next one.

Teaching continues to be a passion. Star spent eight years teaching a variety of topics at graduate level, and has taught independent workshops. To discuss potential speaking and teaching engagements, contact her here.

The role of Army-wife allows Star to move around the country, from Maryland to Colorado (both Southwest and Denver-metro), St. Paul, Minnesota, and to San Antonio, Texas, where she currently resides with her husband, Brooks, her soul-dog, Gena, and the family cat, Jax. Star loves food and cooking—every move is an opportunity to engage with different local farmers and cuisine. And of course, each new place offers indie bookstores and local authors to discover.
